About this map: Positions, altitudes and ground speeds come live from pilots' SmartCARS clients, whether they are flying online on VATSIM or offline. An aircraft appears here while its client is reporting and drops off the map when it goes quiet — which is not the same as when the flight is filed. Altitudes read as flight levels above 10,000 ft and as feet below it. No arrival estimate is shown for an airborne aircraft: one derived from current ground speed would be pessimistic through the climb and blind to both wind and descent, and a number that is confidently wrong is worse than no number at all.
